The need is mission-critical: Without excellent financial leadership, no hospital can thrive, much less survive. It takes significant financial and operational strength to ensure we’ll always be here to care for our community’s most vulnerable patients.

From why to how: Our ability to continue to sustain, enhance and expand our range of services over so many years reflects a combination of critical elements: the right leadership, the right philosophy, the right independent oversight from a strong Board of Trustees and, of course, the right physicians, staff, volunteers, Guild members and donors who make it all possible.

Insisting on expertise: Inspired by a mission to care for present and future generations of Valley children, our leadership team has earned a national reputation for visionary planning, a conservative approach to strategic financial investments and an unshakeable commitment to equity, humanity and compassion.

Competing for the best: Competition for experienced staff, providers and leadership is steep, and to ensure we retain the best, the compensation is objectively measured. We need the best talent to reach new heights and do what is in the best interest of our children’s health and well-being – for today and many tomorrows.

Strong throughout: Understanding that a health system is only as good as its people, we keep adding new reasons to join the team, including excellent career development pathways, advanced training and the kind of benefits and working conditions that make the best and the brightest want to be a part of Valley Children’s.

Bottom-line benefits: While many other hospitals across California are in financial distress, Valley Children’s does everything possible to operate efficiently, invest wisely and work effectively to support the children that depend on us.

Attracting the brightest minds and most caring hearts.

We are continually evaluating our compensation and benefits to ensure we stay competitive, as well as listening to our team members about what is most important to them. Some of the recent changes we’ve made include:

  • Increasing our starting pay for nurses by 33% since 2021.

  • Improving our on-call standby rates by 60%.

  • Adding weight management services as a free employee benefit.

  • Creating Charlie’s Clinic to provide for primary care services for staff and their families.

  • Increasing our IRS education reimbursement to the maximum allowable.

  • Adding a student loan repayment program.

  • Establishing the All For You program to support employee wellness, emotional well-being and recognition.
